Symbrosia Raises Additional $5.8M in Series A-1 Funding to Accelerate Commercial Scale-Up of SeaGraze®
New investors include Idemitsu and One Small Planet, joining Symbrosia’s mission to transform global livestock nutrition through advanced red seaweed innovation.
KAILUA KONA, HAWAI‘I — December 16, 2025 — Symbrosia, the Hawai‘i-based blue-economy company developing SeaGraze®—a next-generation red seaweed feed additive for beef and dairy producers—today announced that it has secured an additional $5.8 million in Series A-1 funding. The raise includes participation from two new strategic investors, Idemitsu and One Small Planet, alongside continued support from all existing backers.
This financing marks a major step forward in Symbrosia’s transition from demonstration-scale production to full commercial manufacturing of SeaGraze® and SeaGraze® Oil.
“We are excited about our follow-on investment in Symbrosia. We believe Symbrosia´s proprietary production method is more cost-efficient than its competitors and are therefore confident that they will emerge as the winner in what has become a competitive race." commented Carsten Krome, Managing Parter at Hatch Blue and Symbrosia Board of Director.
The company is expanding operations at its Kona facility, advancing U.S. regulatory milestones, and preparing for broader market deployment globally.
“This investment comes at a pivotal moment for Symbrosia,” said Alexia Akbay, Founder & CEO.
“Producers around the world are looking for practical, nutrition-forward tools to improve herd performance, animal well-being, and environmental outcomes. The support from Idemitsu and One Small Planet strengthens our ability to deliver SeaGraze® at commercial scale and deepen our partnerships with our growing base of cattle operations ready for science-backed innovation.”
Idemitsu’s investment reflects its growing commitment to ocean-based solutions that support climate resilience. One Small Planet, known for funding ecosystem-scale innovations, brings additional expertise in scaling biological solutions and building resilient food systems.
“We believe Symbrosia’s approach demonstrates the most cost-effective seaweed cultivation method and carbon reduction technology on the market today” says Kei Honda, Head of Corporate Venturing at Idemitsu Americas.
Momentum Towards Commercialization
The Series A-1 funding follows a year of significant technical progress, including:
Expanded production and processing to supply for 6,000 head of cattle ahead of 22,000 head expansion in 2026
Large-batch production of SeaGraze® Oil for upcoming feedlot deployments
Strengthened partnerships with ranches and integrators across Hawai‘i and the mainland
Regulatory progress across U.S., Brazil, and Japan markets
Symbrosia’s SeaGraze® products are designed to deliver a nutrition-first, lipophilic, and highly bioactive approach to ruminant feed supplementation—distinct from synthetic alternatives and increasingly aligned with the needs of modern beef and dairy systems.
