Land Acknowledgement

Symbrosia acknowledges Hawaiʻi as an indigenous space whose original people are today identified as Native Hawaiians (Kanaka Maoli). The ʻāina on which we make our lives and livelihoods is located in the ahupuaʻa of Kalaoa. We recognize that her majesty Queen Liliʻuokalani yielded the Hawaiian Kingdom and these territories under duress and protest to the United States to avoid the bloodshed of her people. We further recognize that generations of Indigenous Hawaiians and their knowledge systems shaped Hawaiʻi in a sustainable way that allows us to enjoy her gifts today.

Colonization is an active, persistent process. Indigenous communities continue to be resilient in protecting their ecological and cultural lifeways despite ongoing oppression. Symbrosia respects, shares, and supports this commitment to climate healing and environmental justice. Please join us in promoting cultural revitalization of traditional limu (seaweed) knowledge by donating to Kuaʻāina Ulu ‘Auamo (KUA).
